The Swanky Doodles’ Cape Town Roots
André’s wife has been a Lindy Hop teacher for 20 years, and after starting Boogie Back Dance Co., the first Lindy Hop dance company in South Africa, the dance community longed for a band that catered to dancers’ specific preferences and needs. Drawing from the talented pool of musicians in Cape Town, The Swanky Doodles became synonymous with dance parties. In addition to playing swing music from the American tradition, it also afforded Andre the opportunity to play and share South African music from the iconic neighborhoods of District Six and Sophiatown, something especially near to his heart since moving to Dallas.
